According to Bloomberg, McKinsey & Co. has notified approximately 3,000 consultants that their performance is below expectations. These consultants are given a three-month period to demonstrate improvement, failing which McKinsey may advise some of them to depart from the company.
While the firm has issued such warnings previously, the current scale is unprecedented, attributed to McKinsey's significant increase in staff numbers, which have surged by 60% since 2018. This action reflects a broader trend in the consulting industry, which has begun to retract after a period of aggressive hiring during the pandemic.
