Tesla Swaps Law Firms

Reuters reported that Tesla, Elon Musk’s electric vehicle company, has replaced its longtime law firm in a California class action lawsuit. Court records indicate that Tesla switched from Cravath, Swaine & Moore to Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr.

This change was finalized last week when Cravath withdrew from the consumer antitrust case. The lawsuit alleges that Tesla has monopolized the market for parts and service for its vehicles, leading to artificially inflated prices for consumers. Both Cravath, known for its Wall Street deals and litigation, and Wilmer, a leading firm in Washington, D.C., have long represented Tesla or Musk.

The court filings do not specify the reason for the change in legal representation. Tesla, Wilmer, and Cravath have not responded to requests for comment. In June, a judge refused to dismiss the proposed class action by Tesla vehicle owners. Wilmer attorneys made their first court appearance for Tesla shortly after, and on Monday, Tesla's new legal team reiterated the denial of the plaintiffs' claims in a new filing.
