Publicis, the advertising agency giant, has reached a settlement of approximately $350 million to resolve allegations that its marketing activities on behalf of pharmaceutical companies contributed to the opioid crisis in the United States.
This settlement concludes three years of negotiations and applies to all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and five U.S. territories. Publicis Health, which partnered with Purdue Pharma from 2010 to 2019, clarified in its statement that this settlement does not constitute an admission of wrongdoing. Additionally, much of the work in question was carried out by Rosetta, a firm owned by Publicis that closed a decade ago.
This settlement highlights the importance of carefully choosing who you work with. The attorneys at Outside General Counsel LLP represent businesses in a general counsel capacity and can help with due diligence, investigations and audits. Please reach out to us for a consultation.
